Overview

The goal of the Energty Broadband virtual summit is to present solutions to the end-user, regardless of the technology behind the solution – broadband, satellite, wireless, fiber, mobile etc., while also addressing the challenges that come with implementing and operating any communications network - interoperability, security, cost containment, and scalability.

Background

•A high-tech industry by nature, the oil and gas vertical spends significant amounts on information and communication technology (ICT). 
 •With approximately 1.4% of its total revenue being spent on ICT, the oil and gas industry falls a little behind the average ICT spending across industries based on revenues. 
 •However, multiplied with the huge $5 trillion-plus revenue base, ICT for O&G is an attractive, highly consolidated, market. 
 •In 2008, the total spending reached $37.6 billion, with ICT outsourcing services and software (including operating systems, standard and custom-built applications, and middleware) both at $10.2 billion.  
 •Like any other industry, the ICT market in the oil and gas industry declined in 2009 due to the global economic crises, but it is expected to recover in 2010 with 12.7% growth. 
 •Over the next three years, Forrester predicts solid double-digit ICT market growth, with software clearly becoming the largest budget element in the oil and gas industry.
